John 2:14-16
"And he found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business. When he made a whip out of cords, He drove them all out of the temple with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the money changers money and overturned the tables. And he said to those who sold doves, Take these things away! 'Do not make my Father's house a house of merchandise!'"
The First Scratch On Your Car
Have you ever had a new car? I still remember painting my first car. I was so afraid of getting getting the first little nick, scratch or dent. However, no matter how hard you try it is going to happen. The first little imperfection looks so big. It is almost like I could see that first nick from a mile away. However, as time goes on, the car got more scratches and dings. At some point along the way, my sight must have got worse, as I stopped noticing all of the nicks. You know, it kind of like noticing someone else dirty bathroom. Then you go to your home and notice the same thing.
Becoming Accustom To Our Environments
The point of this is that we become accustom to our environment. As a leader it is necessary to step back and look at things from a different perspective. Maybe walk into our business location and notice things like it is the first time you ever seen the facility. You may be surprised of some of the things that you notice. You may also want to walk through your business and try to notice things that your employees may se them. At the same time, you may need to bring something that does not look good in their work area. Perhaps, they have become accustom to something and not even notice it.
Fight For what You Believe In
The next lesson as a leader is to do the right thing. A leader needs to go out on the edge sometime to fight for what they believe in. As a leader, allowing employees do things that are not right will not ever get better on its own. The leader needs to step in when they first recognize a problem. Waiting will only lead to bigger problems that will be harder to correct.
Lessons Learned
1. Do not become accustom of your surroundings. Always look at thinks like it is your first time, or through the eyes of others.
2. Fight for what you believe, even if you have to step out on an edge sometimes.
3. Correct problems when you first recognize them, they will only get worse if you don't.
Just like the sins in our lives. We become accustom to the things of the earth little by little until they appear to be normal in our lives. If we don't correct them immediately, it will be difficult to correct later as we will not realize the direction we're heading.
