John 3:3-8
Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly I say to you, unless one is born again, he can not see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he can not enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I say to you, You must be born again. The wind blows where it wishes, and you can hear the sound of it , but can not tell where it comes from or where it goes. So is everyone that is born of the spirit.
John 3:12
“If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?”

I recently attended a conference for educators. The guest speaker was quite interesting as she gave some useful tips on how to teach today’s generation of students. The older methods of standing in front of the class lecturing are not effective with this generation of students. She said the key to reach this generation of students is to teach in ways that they can relate to their lives. For instance, we need to discuss people or events that are the same generation and have the same interests as the students. So MTV, Britney Spear, mobile applications, and video games may speak today’s language. Well, is it speak today’s language or text today’s language?
Relate To The Students
So in order to teach with the latest teaching methods we need to find ways that relate to the individuals being taught. Do you suppose that is why Jesus used the wind, weeds, birds, flowers, farmers, etc. in his teachings. That was what related to those that he taught. I believe he tried to explain things is ways that related to the people of that day. For example, when he was trying to explain being born again, Nicodemus was confused. He was thinking that Jesus was referring to entering the womb of the mother to be born again. Then Jesus used the wind to describe born of the flesh and of the spirit.
Lessons Learned
1. Teach or lead in ways that relate to your students or followers not yourself.
What relates to you may not interest or relate to your students.
2. Teach at the level of your students or followers not your level.
You don’t know how many time I listen to highly educated people try to use the biggest words trying to impress everyone with their intelligence. Sure, people may thing that the speaker or teacher is smart, but they leave the lesson with very little knowledge of the concept being taught. Jesus said, if you do not believe earthly things I tell you, then how could you believe heavenly things. Cold you imagine if Jesus used all of his intelligence and tried to speak of heavenly things on his level? We would not understand it and it would not have any value to us.
